1 Samuel & Chronicles

1 Samuel

Reading 1 & 2 Samuel is like reading several books at once due to the parallels between Samuel and 1 Chronicles.  For fun, you may want to read the Chronicler’s version of the story; the Chronicler does not always see things the same way as the author of Samuel. God’s voice pours through both versions.

The following is a list of the major parallels between Samuel and 1 Chronicles:

I Sam. 31:1- I Chr. 10:1-12;
II Sam. 3:2 -5 I Chr. 3:1-3;
II Sam. 5:1 -10 I Chr. 11:1-9;
II Sam. 5:11 -25 I Chr. 14:1-16;
II Sam. 6:2 -11 I Chr. 13:6-14;
II Sam. 6:12 -19 I Chr. 15:25-16:3
II Sam. 7:1 I Chr. 17:1II Sam. 8:1 I Chr. 18:1;
II Sam. 10:1 -11:1I Chr. 19:1-20:1;
II Sam. 12:30 -31 I Chr. 20:2-3;
II Sam. 21:18 -22 I Chr. 20:4-8;
II Sam. 23:8 -9, 11-39 I Chr. 11:11-40;
II Sam. 24:1 -4, 8-9 I Chr. 21:1-5;
II Sam. 24:10 -25 I Chr. 21:8-26. (ii II Sam. 22:1 = Ps. 18:1)
